Proper Sight Alignment

When it comes to sighting in sporting clays shooting, there are a few key factors to consider: 1. Focus on the Target: In sporting clays shooting, the primary focus should be on the moving target rather than the shotgun's sight. Keep your eyes fixed on the target and use your peripheral vision to align the shotgun's bead or sight with the target. 2. No Aiming: Unlike traditional target shooting, sporting clays shooting does not involve precise aiming. The shotgun should be pointed naturally at the target, allowing for a fluid swing and follow-through. Instead of aiming, focus on developing a consistent lead for the target based on its speed, trajectory, and distance. 3. Sight Picture: While the target remains the main focus, it's essential to maintain a proper sight picture to aid in alignment and overall control. Align the shotgun's bead or sight with the target, ensuring that the bead is centered or slightly below the target. The exact sight picture may vary depending on personal preference and shooting style. 4. Maintain a Soft Focus: Instead of fixating on a specific point of the target, maintain a soft, wide focus that encompasses the entire target's path. This helps in tracking the target smoothly and allows for better anticipation and lead adjustments. 5. Gun Fit: Ensuring that the shotgun fits you properly is crucial for consistent shooting. Proper gun fit helps align the shotgun naturally with your eye and minimizes the need for excessive adjustment. Seek professional advice or make necessary adjustments to achieve a comfortable and accurate gun fit. Remember, sporting clays shooting is a dynamic sport that requires hand-eye coordination, timing, and practice. Developing a consistent, instinctive sight picture combined with effective target tracking and lead estimation will lead to improved accuracy and success in hitting clay targets.

Another tip is to align the barrel rail with the flight path of the target. As you look down the barrel you will see the flat rail the the beads are set on you should align the horizon of the rail with the flight path of the target. This allows you to follow the target path along its flight not trying to meet the target in one point of space and time.
